Penny served as LAA President from 2012 to 2017. While on Long Island, she started teaching watercolors in Adult Education and then went on to give private lessons and workshops. Once she moved to The Landings, she picked up right where she left off, and within two years was giving classes and workshops here. She is anxiously awaiting the eradication of COVID so she can start teaching again. A self-taught artist, Penny’s work captures the innate beauty of her surroundings or subjects while resonating with color and excitement. Throughout the years, Penny has won numerous ribbons at the LAA Spring Shows. Her artwork can be found in private galleries in the U.S. and abroad, as well as in numerous homes here at The Landings. Marie finds that working in different genres, and with various materials provides continual inspiration and personal growth. She received two first-place ribbons at the last two LAA Spring Shows, as well as several LAA/Sound View Choice Awards at the Palmetto Gallery. Currently the LAA’s Technology Specialist, Marie maintains the LAA website ( and is also the administrator of the LAA Virtual Gallery, which can be found on Facebook in “The LAA Art Challenge” group. The group has over 450 members comprised of LAA artists who post their themed work each month, and art appreciators, who have joined the group to view the gorgeous artwork. Be sure to check it out!
